Announcing My E-Book Series

In response to numerous requests over the last few years, I’m excited to finally announce my first series of e-books:

“A Field Guide For Authors”

I’m starting with four titles, which I’ll roll out in November and December:

"How Do I Decide?" by Rachelle Gardner

Successful Blogging by Rachelle Gardner

Where Do I Start? by Rachelle Gardner

How Do I Get an Agent? by Rachelle Gardner

Taking a cue from the inimitable Michael Hyatt, I’m forming an official Field Guide Launch Team of 100 people to help me get the word out about the books. Members of the Launch Team will receive the following benefits:

Free copies of any two of my e-books
Membership in a private Facebook group for me and my launch team
A listing on this blog that includes your brief bio and a link to your blog or website
My undying gratitude!

Membership on the Launch Team means you agree to:

Help spread the word via all means of social media: blog, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest.
Write a review of at least one of the e-books on Amazon or another online retailer
Share any further ideas you may have for further spreading the word.

If you’d like to apply to join the Field Guide Launch Team, send an email to FieldGuideForAuthors@yahoo.com with the following information:

Monthly page views on your blog
Number of Twitter followers and Facebook friends
A brief explanation (no more than 100 words) of why you’d be an asset to the Launch Team.

Not knowing how many applicants I’ll receive, I can’t guarantee everyone will get on the team, but I encourage you to apply if you’re interested! (Don’t hesitate just because you don’t think you have a large platform — remember, most authors are in the same boat.)

I have no issue with you indie publishing, but I admit I’m nervous about your first title. I hope you represent indie publishing fairly, especially since it looks like you’re wading in yourself.

    I wonder if you’ve thought about branching out at some point. Just my opinion, of course, but I think you have a true gift for prescriptive non-fiction and inspirational writing. If you spread your wings alittle with that, I’d definitely be in line!

What wonderful news! Your blog has helped me in many ways, over the years, and I’m sure the books will become a valued resource for both established and aspiring authors.

If I may say this – the heart of your success with this series (and it will be successful!) will be YOUR heart, Rachelle. In 2008 a first-time novelist sent you a query, and while you passed on the project, you took the time to write a kind email praising both the concept and the craftsmanship.

Obviously, that writer was me. You were the first agent I queried, and your reply gave me the courage and confidence to keep going. I went back to those words so many times! The book was eventually published, and it’s a kick beyond anything I’d imagined, going to my local Barnes and Noble and seeing it on one of the ‘feature tables’.

And I’ve kept writing. You gave me hope, and I know that your books will do the same for many others.

Good luck with the e-books, Rachelle. I’m not sure my (or anyone’s) opinion on these titles/subjects is meaningful, since it appears they are being published. After all, you’ve gone to the expense (monitarily or time wise) to have covers done.

Mira mira mira bueno, OK I think if you really help authors it will be great. WE all have books which we would like to get out to the public sector but getting a good agent is difficult. I had problems after Vietnam and being treated with disdain by the Military Marine Corps and then the Veterans Administration and then after many years agents have treated me like an inconvenience in my case I want to reach out to veterans and let them know about a program which helped me get rid of PTSD,got rid of thoughts of suicide.

I loved your blog workshop at the recent Books & Such retreat, so that experience gives me a glimpse into what these resources can offer. Great choices for the launch as each topic will address key concerns and interests for writers. The cover design is simple and clear . . . and fun! I like the sketch-like images representing each topic!

My first thought: What great resources to recommend when I am engaged in one-on-one mentoring, editing a writer’s project, or leading a mentoring clinic for new or advanced writers. And great resources for me too!

The one recommendation that comes to mind is to consider using questions for all titles in the series, including the blogging ebook.

Nothing against self-publishing, since I might have to take that route in the future, but I have two questions.

1) Did you write this all up recently, or did you do like Jeff Gerke and pull your blog posts and compile them into these books?

2) Are you planning on changing the cover art? Simple is fine, ’cause it’s an ebook, and I read that people who read ebooks don’t bother looking at the art. But, and no offence to the artist, the art is creepy, and in my opinion, just doesn’t fit.

Photos might work, like, for the first book a photo of a normal book next to a kindle (or something), as people, nowadays, might associate traditional publishing with books and self-pubbing with ebooks.

Just a suggestion. (I can’t think of anything at the moment for the other three that would get the title message across while still looking appealing, though.)

After a long time playing at writing a book I hav finally gotten serious about writing something for publication. I am about a third of the way through the first episode of a science fiction serial. My plan is to publish on Kindle by the end of January. Your series is about the path that I have chosen, so try it out on me.
